Steven Boccone Attends 150th Anniversary Celebration of Renowned Italian Opera Composer Puccini

Music is a universal language—one that bridges differences in nationality, social status, and even beliefs. Among the many ways to experience this language at its most moving is through the timeless work of classical musicians and composers.

Steven Boccone, recognized for his support of Philippine culture and the arts, is also a devoted music enthusiast, with a particular love for classical works. As a long-time admirer of Giacomo Puccini—the famed Italian opera composer whose masterpieces like La bohème, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly have left an indelible mark on the world—Steven was eager to join in honoring Puccini’s lasting influence.

Puccini, a pioneer of the verismo style in opera, is often regarded as one of the greatest composers after Verdi. His emotionally charged music and unforgettable characters have inspired generations of music lovers across the globe.

In 2025, the Johann Strauss Society of the Philippines (JSSP), led by Fortune Ledesma in partnership with the Monaco Consul and the Italian Embassy, hosted a grand commemorative event to celebrate Puccini’s 150th birthday. The celebration was held at the elegant ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Manila, with support from Mandarin vice-president Olga Severino Martel and general manager Helmut Gaisberger.

Steven Boccone and his wife, Karen Adriano Boccone, were among the distinguished guests who attended the event. The evening featured a remarkable lineup of performers, including Italian soprano Anna Carnovali, tenor Franco Becconi, and celebrated Filipina soprano Rachelle Gerodias—all accompanied by the world-renowned Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Austrian conductor Ernest Hoetzl.

The night was a true feast for classical music aficionados. Attendees enjoyed breathtaking renditions of Puccini’s beloved arias, surrounded by members of the diplomatic corps, prominent supporters of the arts, and the wider music-loving community.

Reflecting on the experience, Steven Boccone shared how much he and Karen enjoyed the evening’s performances. He affirmed his continued passion for Italian opera and expressed his commitment to supporting future events that celebrate both international composers like Puccini and the vibrant world of Philippine arts and culture.

For Steven and Karen Boccone, participating in such cultural milestones isn’t just about the music—it’s about fostering connections, supporting local and global talent, and ensuring the legacy of great composers lives on for new generations to discover.

With their ongoing involvement in the arts, Steven and Karen are sure to remain familiar faces at many more unforgettable cultural events in the Philippines and beyond.
